Agricultural Worker Health Initiative
RCAC works to help improve the quality of life for California’s estimated 1.3 million farm workers. RCAC is providing technical assistance and statewide coordination services to The California Endowment’s own multi-year, multi-million dollar effort, the Agricultural Worker Health Initiative, which aims to make comprehensive improvements in farm workers’ health by utilizing a community leadership and empowerment model. RCAC’s specific role is to provide technical assistance and content around the issue of linking safe, decent and affordable housing and community infrastructure with healthy outcomes. Also, RCAC is providing statewide coordination to the Promoters Communitarian Strategy, a major piece of their community leadership and empowerment approach.
RCAC provides technical assistance to agencies and organizations that build agricultural worker housing. Partnered with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Labor, RCAC helps to increase the supply of affordable, safe and sanitary housing for agricultural workers. RCAC actively participates in a coalition of agricultural worker housing agencies in Washington state. We also work with agencies in Oregon, Utah, Idaho, Arizona and Montana. RCAC’s largest agricultural worker program is in California, where the number of agricultural workers is far greater than in any other state.
