Filmmaker George Lucas is heading an initiative to add affordable housing in Marin County, California, which currently lacks low income housing.

Affordable Housing Finance Magazine reports Lucas is teaming up with the Marin Community Foundation to add affordable units in what is one of the most expensive communities for housing in the nation. The Foundation has provided loans and grants to nonprofit housing developers and is working with Lucasfilm to develop a creative plan for building.

The median price of a single-family home in Marin County is $672,620, nearly three times as much as California's median of $291,080, and the county has one is of the most expensive housing markets in the nation.

"We are thrilled that George Lucas is seeing this as an opportunity to address one of the most critical issues in Marin County — making it possible for a broad range of individuals and families to afford to live in Marin," said Thomas Peters, president and CEO of the Foundation.
