West Sacramento, Calif. — Rural Community Assistance Corporation (RCAC) is pleased to announce that Dave Ferrier is RCAC’s new Housing Department Director. Most recently he was Community Housing Improvement Program’s (CHIP) chief executive officer where he has worked for 35 years.
Even with record rainfall recently in California, the ground beneath the Friant-Kern Canal continues to sink—a result of groundwater depletion from years of drought. This phenomenon, called land subsidence, is a significant problem for drought-affected areas like the San Joaquin Valley, and it has caused problems for farmers and others who rely on water from the canal for irrigation.
Construction jobs and the healthcare, leisure and hospitality industries continue to attract people to the Inland Empire in southern California, and the region is outpacing the state’s coastal communities and their economies, according to the Inland Empire Business Activity Index. The Inland Empire is a metropolitan area and region, however it also includes the Coachella Valley, as well as San Bernardino and Riverside counties.
The counties that make up California’s Central Valley often cannot compete with coastal areas in attracting businesses to locate in their area. But the Kern County Board of Supervisors just released a plan that would offer businesses incentives to set up shop there and to expand existing enterprises.
