RCAC and Mountain Homeless Coalition Change Lives in Rural San Bernardino County
Beneath the dense pine canopy of the San Bernardino National Forest, Jane, a U.S. Armed Forces veteran and college graduate, faced an adversary she never expected: homelessness. Despite adhering to society’s prescribed path to success, this single mother became part of a fast-growing yet often invisible demographic—the "mobile homeless." Suddenly, her family’s world had shrunk to the cramped backseat of her deteriorating car.

Over 100 Million Acres of Forests ID’d for Potential Federal Protection
The Biden-Harris administration announced on Thursday the identification of over 100 million acres of old-growth and mature forests that could potentially receive federal protection. This total encompasses 80 million acres of mature forests and 32 million acres of old-growth forests. The National Forest Service has jurisdiction over about 24.4 million acres of old-growth and 67.4 million acres of mature forests. The Hill reports that while the announcement doesn't outline specific steps, the administration plans to open a 60-day public comment period to gather input on preserving these forests as a defense against climate change.
