The Movement Advancement Project conducted a landmark study that explores the unique challenges of LGBT people of color who live in rural communities. The report examined how rural life amplified the impact of acceptance or rejection for the LGBT communities, who are disproportionately people of color, compared to more populated areas of the country.

Movement Advancement Project made several recommendations to lawmakers, which include passing and enforcing stronger anti-discrimination laws at the state level, improved access to health services for LGBT people, and expanding efforst to collect data on the LGBT population in rural areas, which they called extremely limited.
