West Sacramento, Calif. — We are proud to announce that NeighborWorks America awarded Rural Community Assistance Corporation (RCAC) a $1.7 million Housing Stability Counseling Program grant.

The funds were available as part of the 2021 American Rescue Plan Act, which according to the U.S. Treasury, provides funding for states, territories and Tribes to cover capital projects costs, assist homeowners and provide emergency rental assistance.

RCAC is a HUD-approved national intermediary and provides technical assistance, training and financial support to 17 housing counseling agencies that serve rural communities throughout RCAC’s service area. RCAC’s Housing Counseling program builds the capacity of established and emerging housing counseling agencies, including tribal-based organizations.

RCAC is one of 131 organizations that were awarded a portion of more than $88 million to address foreclosures and evictions and provide prevention counseling in communities nationwide as renter protections and moratoria expire or will soon expire throughout the country.

“We are excited to receive this Housing Stability Counseling Program award. It provides RCAC funds to help the most vulnerable throughout the communities we serve in the wake of the global pandemic,” said RCAC Chief Executive Officer Suzanne Anarde. “We are grateful to be able to help those who are facing foreclosures, evictions and other housing hardships with prevention services and access to federal, state and local relief programs.”

Founded in 1978, RCAC provides training, technical and financial resources and advocacy so rural communities can achieve their goals and visions. RCAC serves rural communities in 13 western states and western Pacific islands. Services are available to communities with populations of fewer than 50,000, other nonprofit groups, Tribal organizations, farmworkers, colonias and other specific populations. RCAC staff provides direct services in collaboration with local and community partnerships in three program areas: affordable housing, environmental services, and lending. RCAC provides loans, including small business loans, technical and economic development assistance to rural communities and nonprofit organizations in its service region. About RCAC’s Loan Fund
