job announcement in newspaperMajor metropolitan areas continue to experience faster job growth than rural, according to The Daily Yonder’s latest study.

Taking into account both Census and Bureau of Labor Statistics numbers, the study found that while two-thirds of rural counties gained jobs between July 2017 and July 2018, job growth occurred in nine out of 10 urban counties. Rural residents’ wages remained static, but slightly fewer rural people are living in poverty.

In the west, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming and Montana’s rural counties saw job losses. Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, Idaho and Utah fared better.
