The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced plans to invest $331 million into 85 projects aimed at improving rural water and wastewater infrastructure.

USDA Rural Development’s Water and Environmental Programs will provide $264 million in loans and $67 million in grants in rural area across the nation.

The city of Truth or Consequences in New Mexico, has been selected to receive a $715,000 loan and a $4.5 million grant to complete the second phase of wastewater treatment plant improvements. RCAC’s Loan Fund provided Truth or Consequences a bridge loan and environmental staff conducted a rate analysis and rate structure for the first phase of improvements.

Since 2009, USDA Rural Development has invested more than $13 billion for 5,825 water and wastewater infrastructure projects which have benefited more than 19 million rural residents.
