water tankA bill that would improve the nation’s water infrastructure is now before President Donald Trump and, if signed, it would authorize more than $6 billion during the next decade for projects such as restoring wetlands and reducing coastal erosion.

The bill has bipartisan support.

“America needs comprehensive water infrastructure legislation that will cut Washington red tape, create jobs and keep communities safe,” Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, told PBS KVIE. Delaware Sen. Tom Carper also said he supports federal efforts to prevent water crises such as in Flint, Mich., which since 2014, has been without clean drinking water.

If the bill becomes law, more than $4 billion will go to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, which provides money to states and utilities to improve drinking water infrastructure.
