The Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WINN) Act  became law in January. Originally called the Water Resources Development Act of 2016, the WINN Act legislation contains three sections: Water Resource Development, Water and Waste Act of 2016 and Natural Resources.

The law authorizes vital water resource development projects, addresses drinking water safety and natural resource issues such as water storage in California and the West.

Additionally, the law provides several provisions for Native American tribal communities which include resolution to long standing conflicts over water rights.
