A new project for both farmworker and workforce housing will be the first of its kind in Woodburn, Oregon. Colonia Unidad will feature a 44-unit housing development with half of the units reserved for farmworker families and the remainder to qualifying low-income families.
Construction is set to begin in April 2018 and take one year to complete, according to the Farmworker Housing Development Corporation – the nonprofit organization which is heading the project. FHCD describes the project as one that allows farmworkers greater flexibility to transition from agricultural labor into another career while staying in their community and support network.
Oregon Housing and Community Services funded Colonia Unidad through its tax credit programs.
