From vine to wine-Cedar Band’s beverage company secures its place in the industry
Cedar City, Utah – The drive along Interstate 15, which meanders from the Mexican border in California to the Canadian border in Montana, can get plenty lonely. After 30 miles of virtually no services, there’s a reprieve: the well-stocked and clean convenience store and smoke shop, Cedar Band Trading Post, which the Cedar Band of Paiutes opened in 2012. Every year, tons of discarded food makes its way to landfills around the globe. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations estimates roughly one third of food produced annually is wasted – about 1.3 billion tons. Families break ground on Guam’s first self-help housing project
After several years of planning and hope, the first group ever of self-help housing families on the island of Guam have begun construction on 13 homes. The families are participating in the U. S. Department of Agriculture’s Mutual Self-Help Housing Program. Read more
It was a day of firsts in Williams, California
On June 26, the first group of 10 homeowners participating in the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Mutual Self-Help Housing Program helped raise the first wall of the first self-help home in Williams, California. Read more
Housing counseling training
RCAC became a national HUD-approved housing counseling intermediary in 2005. Our housing counseling training staff has trained thousands of housing counselors and/or program managers since 2006. In 2016, RCAC became a HUD training partner.

This session will offer an overview of “Rural and Small Systems Guidebook to Sustainable Utility Management,” USDA/EPA’s new guidebook followed by a self-assessment exercise. Participants will get an overview of the guide, understand how to choose focus areas, and learn from other utilities about common problems and solutions.
