Nominations sought for outstanding rural volunteer award

Rural Community Assistance Corporation (RCAC) will accept nominations until April 14 for the 2016 Yoneo Ono Outstanding Rural Volunteer Award. The award honors rural people who have made significant lifelong contributions to their community in volunteer capacities. The 2016 honoree will receive an award, a reception in her or his honor and $2,500 to donate to a charitable organization of her or his choice. We need your help. Native American Tribe Gets Federal Funds to Flee Rising Seas

The sacred land in coastal Louisiana that a small community of Native Americans has called home for more than a century has been all but swallowed by the rising sea.

Now a $48 million federal grant will allow the band of Biloxi-Chitimacha-Choctaw Indians of Isle de Jean Charles to move away from their vanishing homes.
