Where: Fallon, Nevada

Issue: A business owner needed working capital to relocate and reopen a business that had been closed

Outcome: RCAC’s Loan Fund provided an $85,000 small business loan

Fallon is in western Nevada and has a population of just more than 8,600. The median household income (NHI) is $41,346 far below the state MHI, which is $55,180.

The owner of Country Health and Life, a Fallon retail business that sold vitamins, health foods and other lifestyle products retired in December 2015 after 23 years in operation. Months after the business closed a former customer decided to relocate the store, hire back the store’s two employees and reopen under the same name.

She moved the business from the rural community’s outskirts to a store front in Fallon’s downtown district. Locating the business downtown also contributed to the Fallon Downtown Alliance’s revitalization efforts, which also included a cooperative grocery store. Based on the new location, the business name recognition and plans to expand services she was confident that the business would be successful. But after being closed for several months she anticipated that revenues would not meet expenses.

RCAC’s Loan Fund provided an $85,000 Small Business Administration loan to help cover the gap.
