A recent report shows that while urban areas tend to have the highest wages overall, rural wages are growing at a faster pace.

According to City Lab, the myth that success is only to be found in urban areas is false. Salaries and wages indeed tend to be higher in urban areas. But large rural counties had wages and salaries that compared with urban, whether adjacent to a metro community or not.

The report also shows a wide range of salaries exist in both rural and urban areas.

“Wage growth is another story entirely. Rural communities have seen significantly faster growth in wages and salaries than their urban counterparts,” Richard Florida said in his report.

In general, rural counties had faster wage growth than urban counties between 2001 and 2016.
