The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Housing Service encourages housing properties and community facilities financed through the Rural Housing Service to participate in the Summer Food Service Program. USDA Food and Nutrition Service operates the program, also known as the Summer Meals Program.

The Summer Meals Program provides healthy meals to low-income children during the summer when school is out of session.

“This program is critically important for many rural children, who may be at risk of going hungry when they do not have access to free and reduced-price school meals,” said Curtis Anderson, acting administrator, Rural Housing Service, in an Unnumbered Letter.
