Where: Kittitas, Washington

Issue: The small, low-income community needed financing to construct a facility to keep its equipment dry during inclement weather.

Outcome: RCAC’s Loan Fund provided a $70,000 intermediate term loan to finance the facility’s construction.

The city of Kittatis, in Kittatis County, Washington, is a small community of about 1,380 residents in a primarily agricultural area. The community has a $40,333 Median Household Income, below the county median, and well below the state’s.

The city owns and operates its own utility service equipment however, the equipment was left outside during inclement weather, with only tarps for shelter. To extend the equipment’s useful life, the city needed to construct a 2,400 square foot maintenance and storage shop.

The total budget for the project was $140,000, and the city planned to use a portion of its reserve funds to cover the cost. However, it needed additional financing to cover the balance. RCAC’s Loan Fund provided $70,000 in intermediate financing, enabling the city to complete the project, and store its equipment in a safe, dry area. It also provides a heated space for city staff to perform maintenance on the equipment.
