Glass of drinking water Where: Oak Harbor, Washington

Problem: Small, rural water systems often lack expertise to maintain compliance with drinking water regulations.

Solution: Rural Community Assistance Corporation provided training and technical assistance to help a small system attain compliance with regulations.

Wagon Wheel Mobile Home Park is a small water system located in Oak Harbor, on Whidbey Island, Washington. The population just more than 22,000 and the median household income is $36,641.

The system was not meeting its annual reporting requirements under the state’s Water Use Efficiency (WUE) Rule. The system had failed to report for the last three years so the Washington State Department of Health requested RCAC’s assistance.

RCAC staff worked with the systems to make sure they understood the reporting requirements and trained them to use the state’s reporting system. The system submitted its annual reports and is now back in compliance with the WUE rule.
