Problem: Tribal communities lack resources to maintain safe water and wastewater systems

Solution: RCAC staff helps Tribal communities maintain their water and wastewater systems

The Tule River Reservation is located in Tulare County, near Porterville, California. The Tribe’s Public Works Department director requested RCAC’s assistance to develop and map onsite wastewater disposal systems on the Tule River.

Together, RCAC and Tribal staff identified and mapped 96 remote onsite wastewater disposal systems (septic systems) on the Tule River Reservation using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping software. The Public Works department will use the maps and work with homeowners to prevent future damage to the septic systems. The work will help the department ensure uninterrupted wastewater service to the Tribal members living in the homes.
