With affordable housing increasingly out of reach for many Americans, trailer parks are attracting more would-be buyers, in part because of more amenities. Trailer park designers are gradually designing modern “mobile home communities” that are energy-efficient, and may have playgrounds and swimming pools.
Too little snow is falling in the American Southwest, worrying water managers in a region with a growing population. Even in wetter years, the American West needs more and more water. It fuels the winter tourism industry, and serves 40 million people living between Denver and Los Angeles.
During the next decade, California is set to spend $1 billion on low-income housing rooftop solar installation. The Solar on Multifamily Affordable Housing (SOMAH) program, according to legislators who passed the law governing the program in 2015, will help the state meet its climate goals and also help reduce energy bills for low-income residents.
